Diablo 3 digs deep into Tyrael's saga, as he transforms into"the" Fallen Star by tearing off his own wings and plummeting into Sanctuary that is where descendants of Nephalem dwell. While this scene lacks Tyrael's direct involvement, the design of the Horadrim and the influence he has on the Paladins from Sanctuary implies that he's definitely involved. Dark and light battle at the front, and the now-dead Tyrael resides somewhere in the middle.

It is likely that his presence will be felt through these intermediaries until events make him a victim. Tyrael is still dealing with the repercussions of destroying the Worldstone at the end in Diablo 2. This mystical object protected Sanctuary from Heaven and Hell and he protects the land on its behalf. Tyrael appears unlikely to lead any further expeditions into Hell or go buy Diablo IV Gold much farther then the Pandemonium Fortress, where he could offer advice as Deckard Cain to those who choose to listen.
