The stories of streamers who have spent thousands of dollars on D2R Items only to never have the loot items or loot that needed to make progress in the game are becoming more common as more and more players take on Diablo 4's endgame difficulties. As expected, this is, one of the main reasons Maxroll has made the decision to end its guides to the game, however they're not the only one. According to Maxroll they have a few serious issues with Diablo 4 at this time including its financial structure, the discontent of the community with the game, and generally unrewarding gameplay.
Maxroll further explained that it's not about money at this point as well, and also stated that Activision Blizzard would need to reconsider Diablo 4's pay to win mechanics and in the announcement, the company stated that "[theydo not see a path forward" without a major revamp regarding this issue. Maxroll's group of Diablo 4 experts had spent more than 10.000 hours playing the game over the course of the past one and a half years, and the company was still of the opinion that it had to walk away from the project to be a good steward to the community it serves.
It was initially thought that it would take just over $100.000 to be able to play as their best characters in the game research revealed that it would require more than $500.000 to maximize a character's abilities in Diablo 4. The reveal was revealed as players were able to unlock a few of the game's most obscure mechanics which included the so-called Awakening, which opens up even more D2R items for sale console slots for characters to equip.
