Blizzard first announced its character clone option

Blizzard is shutting down World of Warcraft Classic's character Clone service WoTLK Gold on the 26th of July in just under an entire year of being available.

The paid-for service lets players make a copy of the WoW Classic character that they want based on a "snapshot" of the character's current state on May 18. 2021. Players were offered the option to choose on a per-character foundation prior to launch of Burning Crusade Classic last summer of whether or not to keep the character on what Blizzard currently calls "Classic Era" realms or move up to Burning Crusade. If players couldn't decide for cloning, let them take both options for a minimal cost.

Blizzard did not give any reason specific for it's shutting down on its blog the service will be on sale at $5 (66% off) through the 26th of July. If you haven't made an option for their character on whether it's better to move on toward Burning Crusade Classic or stay on a Classic Era realm by July 26. Blizzard says all characters will be transferred to Burning Crusade Classic, with the Classic Era version of those characters being removed.

As Blizzard first announced its character clone option last year it found itself in hot water over what was perceived by many as an unreasonably high cost for the service, as it was originally planned to be $35. After listening to player feedback, Blizzard cut the price of the service by more than half, to $15.

Burning Crusade Classic just received the final update of content, Fury of the Sunwell buy WOW WoTLK Classic Gold. Blizzard is planning on releasing the Classic Version of the game's beloved Wrath of the Lich King expansion later this year. If Wrath of the Lich King Classic will be released it will mean that every Burning Crusade servers will automatically become Wrath of the Lich King servers. While Wrath of the Lich King Classic will work with the final patch of the expansion but it will not include features like the automated minimap of quest tracking that Blizzard claims isn't in the spirit of the Classic WoW's "core values."
