Introduction to Senior Move Management

Greetings!

Welcome to my first ever blog….  Every journey starts with the first step so here I go.

I thought I’d create a spot where people can share stories, ask questions and get informed on ways to relocate with as little stress as possible.

So first off I’d like to introduce Senior Move Management

Have you ever thought - How nice it would be to have someone pack your belongings… as carefully as you would. Someone to arrange transport of your belongings to your new home and place them exactly where you want them. Someone to unpack your things and place them in the cupboards - just the way you want. Someone to have your bed made and ready for you by the end of the day. Someone to connect your TVs, telephones and computers. Someone to haul off all the boxes and packing paper. And do it all with a smile and plenty of patience?

Is that asking too much?

Not if you are working with a good Senior Move Manager!

You see, a Senior Move Manager provides emotional, organizational and hands on support to people with disabilities, older adults and their families during the move process. Senior Move Managers provide help with; move planning, developing floor plans, hiring and supervising movers, sorting, packing, unpacking, making the bed, restocking kitchen shelves, and disbursement of unneeded items - all with a smile and plenty of patience!

Senior Move Managers generally provide free consultation and written estimates. They usually charge an hourly rate and they can tailor their services to fit your wants, needs and budget.

You want to be sure to work with a Senior Move Managers that is licensed, bonded and insured. In the State of Oregon, Oregon law requires people who pack household goods for transport to be licensed through ODOT. You can verify licenses through the ODOT website at; http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/MCT/MOVERS.shtml

Your state may be different but a good place to start checking a provider’s credentials would be your state’s department of transportation.

You can locate Senior Move Managers through the National Association of Senior Move Managers (NASMM) at; http://www.nasmm.org/find/find.html

As a Senior Move Manager myself, I look forward to sharing professional insights you may find useful and occasionally entertaining.

Sounds like a very useful service.  Are you independent or part of a larger organization?

Hi Brian,

I am an independent business local to the Portland Oregon area.  Through the NASMM  website ( www.nasmm.org/.../find.html) you can find Move Managers local to your area. Most Move Managers have somewhat similar business models and each one offers more or less service depending on their expertise.

Take Care Move Assistance’s business model is pretty much – we can do whatever you need to get you moved – It’s sort of “cafeteria style” in that we can do as little or as much as they want help with.  Some clients have family close by and only need us to do a little packing, others have no family in town and ask us to manage the whole transition down to the final donations drop off and garbage removal in preparation for the home sale.

Thanks for asking!
