It was exhilarating to return to the RuneScape Grand Exchange and see people wearing armor and wielding swords that looked like they could summon god-killing power and smash my gold-trimmed, old dragon armor and abyssal whip (that'd be amazing if you played back in my day, kiddos).
Even the menus were different in the end, even though the nice people at Jagex have set up a lot of support for older players including a Legacy menu mode. As a nod to the old gamers, I was thrilled to learn that when I visited Lumbridge and talked to Hans, an iconic NPC since the beginning of the game that he would reward me with the option of a five, 10 or 15-year veteran cape. The 15-year cape is a sight to behold, it's got flames burning at the bottom.
After being so overwhelmed, I made the decision to set a long-term goal of mine: to master the art of firemaking. Skill mastery consists of many hours of repetitious motions to achieve level 99 (now at 120 across a variety of skills) The process is rewarded with a cape worthy of a master. This cape is cut. It's bright.
It demonstrates the symbol of the skill of any kind and has a hood that matches.
