China Plague Grows: Update on Wuhan Virus

CWMD reports the incubation period for the coronavirus can be up to 24 days, not 14 days as previously thought.  The CDC evaluates the public health risk to the U.S. and globally as High, however, CDC maintains that the risk to the general American public is Low.  

 As of 0400 ET 12 Feb, the WHO reports there are 45,171 (+4,618) confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 1,115 (+205) confirmed deaths worldwide.  The number of confirmed cases in the U.S. remains at 13 (n/c). 

 USCG reports two (-4) commercial vessels with a China port of call in the past 14 days are scheduled to arrive in the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, CA on 12 Feb.  The Cruise Ship DIAMOND PRINCESS remains under quarantine in the Port of Yokohama, Japan due to a 2019-nCoV outbreak.  Testing is ongoing for passengers and crew, confirming 135 (n/c) total cases, 23 (n/c) of whom are U.S. citizens. 

On 10 Feb, DOS authorized the departure of eligible family members from Consulate General of Hong Kong.  This departure is approved for 30 days.  Included in this departure authorization are non-emergency U.S. Direct Hire employees and contractors employed by the U.S. government.  U.S. Embassy Beijing and U.S. Consulate Guangzhou concurred with USCIS proposal to place Locally Employed Staff (LES) on administrative leave for the duration of the Authorized Departure.  LES in both locations will be instructed not to return to work until further notice, with certain limited exceptions
