As the Iraq War slipped into chaos, few writers were willing to step out and call the barbaric behavior of our enemy what it is--barbaric. Words have power. So do pictures. Strict censoring of our own reporting and photos by the mainstream media does not make the enemy less savage. But it does make us more blind to the realities of what are troops are facing on the front lines.
As you will read over the next few book updates, in 2005 and 2006 I wrestled with what I was seeing on the ground and what I was seeing not reported.
