Diablo II: Resurrected's biggest change of course is that the visual makeover, a 3D layer tailored for multiple resolutions, aspect ratios, and something that may scale easily across a vast range of hardware. Being able to Diablo 2 Items play the sport in handheld mode on a Nintendo Switch or onto a big-screen 4K TV is no doubt something to be excited about.
And to get a PC game from twenty years past, the flexibility of the new 3D layer adds additional alternatives for the team -- zooming in a little for those sitting on a couch, raising text dimensions, opening the framework to present more of their impressive environments for widescreen displays. Scaling detail levels and frame-rates, remastering both the music and sound (with the first voice work intact) for surround systems and contemporary headsets.
Nevertheless, getting the 3D makeover to look as great as it will took considerable effort beyond bringing all of the 2D resources over.
"Some of those very first games I worked were isometric sprite-based games," Rob Gallerani recalls. "When you look at a sprite going up against a wall they are faking the fact that a personality looks facing some pieces and behind other pieces. And the way that you do that is that you really create a little bit of space from the wall. If you know the Diablo II mini-map you will understand that your character is like a little'X' on the map, a little also. In reality your character is that and, you're not one block you are five cubes. And that is to make sure that you're a certain distance away from a wall."
"We do not get to do this because we really are in 3D," Rob continues. "The same is true for a few of the effects where the old game just did a pallet swap. Just take each the colours and Buy Diablo 2 Resurrected Items flip them so now you are utilizing a different pair of 16 colours. We can't do this, we have regular maps, texture maps, real-time lighting. It's completely different technology."
