Understanding Currency Functions

Path of Exile 2 introduces a wide range of currencies that serve as tools for modifying, enhancing, and customizing gear. Unlike traditional RPGs where gold is the universal currency, POE 2 uses specific orbs and crafting items, each with a distinct purpose. For example Chaos Orbs are used to reroll item modifiers on rare gear, Divine Orbs change the numeric values of affixes, and Exalted Orbs add a new modifier to rare items. Knowing what each currency does is essential before you attempt to customize your gear. Mastery of these tools allows you to shape your gear according to your build needs and progression goals.

Crafting and Upgrading Rare Items
One of the most common ways to use currency in POE 2 is crafting rare items. To start you might use an Orb of Alchemy to convert a white item into a rare item. If the result is not satisfactory you can then use an Orb of Scouring to wipe the item clean and start over. As you gather more currency, you can progress to more advanced crafting. Blacksmith’s Whetstones and Armourer’s Scraps improve the quality of weapons and armor respectively which enhances their base stats. When it comes to modifiers, using Blessed Orbs to adjust implicit modifiers or Divine Orbs to adjust the values of explicit modifiers can result in stronger and more efficient gear. For advanced players Harvest crafting and crafting benches add even more options by allowing you to influence what mods appear or even remove undesired ones.
