Our aim was to make the characters in Diablo IV

"Our aim was to D2R Items make the characters in Diablo IV look as unique and individual as possible, using cutting-edge tools and techniques," Mueller said in the latest Diablo Quarterly blog post. "Over time, our expectations about what we thought we could achieve evolved and grew into the look you see now.

We wanted to use the latest tools and techniques, but we did have a concern about leaning into "realism" in a manner that didn't give that hand-crafted feel that we believed was fundamental to the Blizzard gaming experience."

To embrace that design philosophy, Blizzard had to completely overhaul its rendering engine as well as authoring tools . It also had to put together an entire team of artists, tools engineers and rigging experts as well as lighting specialists, and experts in surfacing.

The result was "massive enhancements" in terms of detail, and the surfacing of complex materials like clothing, skin fur, hair and even tiny elements like the eye's highlights and rivulets of sweat according to Mueller.

Another benefit of this character design concentration is that the majority of Diablo IV's story cutscenes will be rendered by the engine with game models which allows for cinematic scenes that show the player's customized character in the action. Diablo IV's Rogue trailer for the announcement, as cheap diablo 2 resurrected items an example, was designed entirely in Diablo IV's game engine. Diablo IV game engine.
