Nightmare dungeons represent our take on Rifts

Ferguson says: Nightmare dungeons represent our take D2R Items on Rifts So in the case of Diablo there's likely to be an area in town that you simply go to it and open a portal, and it's off and you're waiting in the city to play repeatedly. There are now Nightmare Dungeons. This is equivalent to running on a Rift in a way, however, it's a feeling of home.

And so Joe has signatures, I have sigils and we're like "Okay is where do we would like to go? We must go somewhere right now" as well, "Okay, let's mount up, get on our horses, and go to go west." This is because that dungeon contains specific items we'd like to possess or the kind of equipment we'd like to acquire. That's why I like that experience of being in the dungeon and not just picking up some portals every time.

So , one of the most interesting items I saw was the system of strongholds. How does that impact the sense of place? Because it's like you're liberating areas, then how does that influence the story you're telling?

Shely: So the strongholds play a significant role in the development of the world. We really wanted players to be able to meaningfully alter the world and for actions to impact how things are going in the world of Sanctuary. Therefore, when you see these strongholds, you'll see several of them within the different regions.

There'll be some that are swarming with monsters. In clearing them out it will be possible to return them to a safe location for Sanctuary. There will be non-player characters and you'll have the chance to complete side quests. Additional dungeons may be revealed in the process while the strongholds remain altered as a result of the actions you take on the character throughout.

Fergusson: It's interesting. When you play the game, strongholds are, according to RPG terms, instances in which there is no privacy. Therefore, when you're brought to a stronghold, or when you go to buy diablo 2 resurrected items liberate the stronghold, it's an private moment. Then you head out with your party and you go and do that fight.
