The readers of Travel + Leisure are asked annually to express their thoughts on driving directions the best hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more in the world by participating in our World's Best Awards poll. We evaluated hotels (including safari lodges) based on their features, convenience, service, food quality, and cost. Hotels, resorts, and safari lodges were categorized according to whether they were in a city or a wilderness setting.
Canada's western provinces of Alberta and British Columbia accounted for seven of this year's top ten, while eastern Quebec took home three. Many establishments, such as the No. 2 Fairmont Chateau Whistler and the No. 10 Wickaninnish Inn, are perennial favorites among readers.
The stunning lakefront location of the No. 6-ranked Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge was a major selling point for guests. One other traveler visiting Quebec said that the 4-star Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu was a great option for families since it was "a wonderful, peaceful hotel with enough of area for our daughters to wander about."
Furthermore, the cozy Manoir Hovey in Quebec has been ranked as Canada's greatest resort for the second year running. In a prime location on the beaches of Lake Massawippi, you'll find this Relais & Châteaux hotel with 36 rooms. Located in the middle of a forest that spans 30 acres, the feeling of remoteness is palpable, as is the genuine Québécois allure. The experience is "like going back in time," remarked one reader. When we need a break from the world, we try to make it back here as frequently as possible. Most rooms feature fireplaces, and suites include canopy beds and balconies with sweeping views of the surrounding forests. In the summer, tourists occupy their days with activities such as riding the magnificent 8.6-mile gravel bike route developed on a disused railway line. In the colder months, guests may enjoy ice skating on the lake and snowshoeing around the hotel.
