If there is a more perfectly ponderous title than UN Special Rapporteur, I am unaware of it. If you see it be certain that the Ministry of Truth has blessed his vital mission and all blatherings are just chock full of truthiness. With that caveat, let us examine the examinations of our drone program done by this humble and honest civil servant. First of all the title of his report is "US slaughtering innocent Pakistanis for sport-well that's what this dead terrorist's brother told me". OK not exactly butpretty damn close. (CNN) -- Farmers are on their way to tend their crops when a missile slams into their midst, thrusting shrapnel in all directions. A CIA drone, flying so high that the farmers can't see it, has killed most of them. None of them were militants. It's a common scenario, a United Nations human rights researcher said Friday in a statement on drone strikes in Pakistan's tribal region of North Waziristan. Shrapnel thrust into the farmers peacefully wending their way through verdant meadows, horrible right? But how do we know these are simple farmers? Well Special Rapporteur (say that word with the heaviest French accent you can muster) Ben Emerson interviewed their friends and relatives. Special Rapporteur Ben Emmerson just returned from the region, where he listened to residents talk about terrifying encounters with one of America's weapons in the war on terror. Rapporteur: So, Akhnard, your brother was vaporized in a drone strike, was he a terrorist or a gentle goat herder? Akhnard: My brother was simply taking a load of ammonium nitrate fertilizer, diesel fuel and blasting caps to market to trade for food to feed his starving children. SR: Ah Ha! another innocent victim of America's illegal war criminality. I must Rapport this to the world. FFS, the idea that this report was going to be anything more than fodder for the Hate America crowd at the world's most corrupt organization is a joke. Of course there have been some innocents killed by drone strikes, but the idea that we are simply flying around looking for guys in man jammies to whack is simply a fiction. And many of the so-called innocents SR Ben E eulogizes were associating with known terrorists. That is a bad idea, and perhaps the thought of eating a Hellfire missile will cause some folks to reconsider.
