"Veteran" Terror

Mothax at the American Legion's Burn Pit has something to say about the media labeling the Sikh temple shooter as a veteran. [Full disclosure: every time the story is aired on radio or television, I try to determine which news organization is saying that. So far, the only one on radio that I have heard has been ABC.] ...A horrible person commits an absolutely evil deed. He was seemingly part of a racist movement that needs to be thoroughly eradicated. But how does that tie into his military career? It doesn't. Nothing he learned in the military in any way shaped this horrific deed. And he was thrown out of the military 14 years ago, even years before his admitted enlistment in racist causes. How on earth is his military service the centerpiece of every story from the media that Drudge is trumpeting with each new development?... Go read the whole piece here (Mothax quotes the Christian Science Monitor and CBS). And Jonn Lilyea at the Farm Team (however, now equal to or surpassing B5 in daily traffic - kinda like the Iowa Cubs...) makes this excellent point: ...I heard Shepard Smith on Fox News make a stupid crack about Page just being just a psy-ops guy but that he worked around the best trained troops in the Army, referring to Special Forces, of course. How does that even rate a comment? I’m not sure if Smith was saying that Page became a killer through osmosis or if he was infested with Special Forces cooties that jumped on him while he was at Bragg. How have any of these John Rambo fantasies played out for the media? How many Special Forces guys have gone on a rampage like this? None. They called Jeffery MacDonald the “Green Beret” doctor who killed his family at Fort Bragg decades ago, but he wasn’t special forces, he was a doctor assigned to the unit... And there's a whole lot more at This Ain't Hell.
