Of the photos I shot in Iraq, only a fraction have made it out into the world. Thanks to some pushing by ROS over at This Ain't Hell, more of them are now going to be shared courtesy of a book. But, this is not a book about that one percent of the time that so many focus on; rather, this book is about the 99 percent: the day-to-day life during deployment. A Different View: Travels with Team Easy, Iraq 2007 is a way to share the photos that were not news, but simply caught my eye and show a bit of the routine both in and outside the wire. More than 50 photos are featured in this volume, along with a mercifully short amount of commentary on each. I'm honored to have a foreword by Blackfive, and an introduction by JD Johannes. My mentor during my photographic internship at Playboy, David Mecey, was even kind enough to provide a cover blurb for the book. I'm also grateful to Nicki Fellenzer for her help with editing, but will note that any errors remaining are mine and mine alone. I wanted to do something different with the book, and did so on several levels. It is a way to share the photos that don't make the news, but capture various bits of life in the field. The text is short because while I could talk about what I saw and felt, I would much rather the reader have the chance to write down and share their perspective within the book; and, for those who have been there and done that, write down memories that any of these may spark so that they can share them with family, friends, and others. That sharing can mean and do a lot for all concerned. On the technical side, I took a path that did not involve a major publishing house (though I am open to that), as doing so opened up some opportunities. I even opted to go with a digital proof as the modern way, despite my years of doing press checks and print proofs. One of the opportunities that came with publishing A Different View: Travels with Team Easy, Iraq 2007 this way is the chance to do some good. The link I'm giving is a special one, that offers the opportunity for Cooking with the Troops to get more money, as 10 percent of the profits from this book will go to CwtT. Royalties to authors can and do vary by means of distribution, and this link gives a special percentage that will mean more for charity. For those fully in the electronic age, there may be a Kindle version soon. I can't promise anything, but that is being worked. This has been a learning process, but a good one that may mean some more works to come. If you buy it, my thanks! I hope you enjoy it. LW
