“Currency of Honor,” which was released on Veteran’s Day, salutes notable North Texas veterans ranging from elected officials, former professional athletes, and retired businessmen who earned medals of service, sacrifice and valor as members of the military and public safety professions. The portraits and biographies were completed by McKinney artist Colin Kimball, and proceeds from sales of the book will benefit Wounded Warriors. Military Legacy Portraits, a division of Images by Colin, a McKinney based portrait studio, originated by Colin Kimball is releasing the book titled “Currency of Honor” on Friday November 11, 2011 (Veterans Day). The Currency of Honor features artistic portraits and biographies of notable veterans from north Texas. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of the book will go directly to Defenders of Freedom, a 501c3 non-profit charity that supports active service members in war zones with care packages and wounded warriors as they transition into society when they return. The title of the book relates to the medals that are earned by members of our military and public safety professions that are a Currency of honor given to recognize noble virtues of service, sacrifice and valor. According to Kimball, “once earned the Currency has no monetary value and can never be traded, but it denotes an air of nobility upon those who earn this fortune by virtue of their service, sacrifice and strength of moral character.” Together the portraits artistically illustrate the veterans’ service and the accompanying biographies provide testaments to the honorable deeds that make these men and women noble. Kimball has specialized in this very unique style of photographic based portraits for military service members and veterans. The Currency of Honor has been an ongoing personal project and a means of sharing his talents with those who gave more than their fare share in the current Global War on Terrorism. Kimball, an Air Force Veteran himself, partnered with Defenders of Freedom because of his desire “to give a little more.” Defenders of Freedom was founded by Donna Cranston in 2004 to provide customized care packages to the Service Men and Women in Iraq and Afghanistan. For every dollar raised, $0.92 goes directly to the outreach efforts of supporting the troops. In regard to the funds raised through the sale of this book, “they will be used to support the wounded warriors as they transition from active duty into the VA system” according to Cranston. In addition to featuring the stories of the noble Texans featured in the book, Kimball also hopes to raise awareness of the importance and significance of the medals that are earned and provide a reference to the public-at-large on many of the medals that are issued to help dissuade and discourage people from the improper wearing of military honors that are not earned. The book will initially be on sale through the Defenders of Freedom web site and printed via an on demand publisher. An excellent Christmas gift, coffee table book and reference on Military Heraldry, copies can be ordered at www.defendersoffreedom.us or at http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/2753744 For more information on Military Legacy Portraits and Kimball’s military portraits of both living and fallen service men and women, please visit www.militarylegacyportraits.com. /iframe/div
