Charles Hoskinson at POLITICO's Morning Defense lays a few numbers on us: TODAY’S HEARING IN THE READINESS SUBCOMMITTEE “will highlight the impact of shrinking defense budgets on our military forces and subsequent dire choices our nation’s commanders are being forced to consider. Ten years of war and three years of sustained defunding under President Obama have pushed the military to the breaking point,” a GOP congressional aide says. SOME NUMBERS: Two out of every five Air Force bombers are not mission-capable because of maintenance and parts shortages. One in three active Army units and three out of five reserve units lack sufficient personnel to carry out their mission. Marine Corps stockpiles of critical items are only 30 percent of what they need to be. Naval ships suffer from maintenance shortfalls - an issue that was the subject of its own hearing last week. But let's cut the crap out of defense, because, you know, there are no other areas where savings can be found to spend on food stamps. Meanwhile let's short the folks in harm's way, shall we? PO'd? Me? Ha. ~McQ Twitter: @McQandO
