I have made the trek North to Maine for a fundraiser and a fun raiser put on by our non profit the Warrior Legacy Foundation. The good folks up here, led by the amazing Pam Payeur, have put together two incredible events back to back this weekend. Saturday is the Wounded Heroes ride where hundreds of motorcyclists from the Northeast will ride and recreate to raise money to support wounded vets transitioning to civilian life. Then Sunday some of these wounded vets will get a chance to get back behind a few of the guns we all know and love including that lovely lady Ma Deuce, the .50 cal. Speaking of lovely ladies, I am accompanied by my girlfriend who I believe has been conspiring with our own Mr. Wolf to cause me some undeserved pain and suffering. The Wolf was kind enough to make the travel arrangements and although we spent about five hours on the tarmac at Reagan I can hardly hold that against him and my girl was on the plane with me so she is blameless for that bit. But once we hit the rental car zone, it was apparent that some dirty trickeration was afoot. I spoke to the rental agent who assured me the chariot awaited and that it was a lovely Italian job. Yeah Right! Italian shoe box maybe. It is called a Fiat 500 and it makes a Smart Car look like an SUV. My sweetie pie was beside herself with joy and kept saying how cute it was. Well that may be, but it is hardly the ride I am looking to roll up to a motorcycle rally or machine gun shoot in. But she was adamant and worse yet she started in with the sad faces when I told the guy I needed something with at least one molecule of testosterone. So I began to steel myself for the possibility that I might have to suck it up and drive on in a car that makes a scooter look bad-assed. As the tears began to roll down my cheeks and I felt my stones receding into my abdomen, she let me off the hook. I had bit so hard my teeth cracked and she was giggling her ass off. Somewhere from deep in the wilds of Tampa I heard a Wolf howling with laughter as well. So I dug into my pocket and the agent gave me a break on some real Detroit iron. The relief was therapeutic and a Dodge Charger seems much more apropos for the events of the weekend. Much more to follow and we even hope to sneak in a lobster hunt. I want to bag one with a .357 and my girl thinks she can take one of the sea spiders down with her Sig Sauer 9mm.
