Welcome Home Cpl. Bowman

Yesterday did something that an IED was unable to do: it made Marine Cpl. Matthew Bowman cry. What could make a Marine cry? It started on his drive home from Washington DC, where he's been working to heal and learn to deal with having two legs and some fingers missing. As he and his family left Indianapolis and began the drive north, being escorted by the Indiana State Police, people began appearing on the interstate overpasses, waving, hanging banners welcoming him home. At Zionsville, some 600 members of the Legion Riders, Rolling Thunder, Patriot Guard Riders, and others joined the convoy. As they left the interstate people began to line the highway waving, waving flags, and holding signs. By the time they reached the Lafayette area, the route was solidly lined with people waving and calling out thanks. Veterans Memorial Parkway was shut down by the crowds as well as the police as the motorcade made its way through. When they reached their destination at McCutcheon High School, several hundred people were already waiting to greet him. WIth the riders, roughly 1,000 people were there to welcome him home. It's enough to bring a tear to a Marine's eye, and there were few dry eyes at the emotional homecoming. Cpl. Bowman is a good Marine, and has been a busy Marine given some news he shared with friends and family last night. For more, check out the photos and story at the Journal and Courier (be sure to check out the excellent photo essay by Michael Heinz), and WLFI has a story and some video. Welcome home Matt. I hope that there was a big box of MaryLou donuts waiting for you as you requested. LW
