I woke up this morning feeling as though someone, somewhere, needed to be pilloried. The Delta Airlines story was handled already (and WOW! am I hot about that), so I shifted fire and then it occurred to me; I have been all over the web, and I have also waited the obligatory couple of days before heading out in this direction, and at the risk of angering the trolls (which, we all know, ain't hard), I am gonna just say it. This gift that President Obama has for ignoring and disrespecting our military, while acting as the commander in chief is truly without equal. He has elevated it to an art form. Sure, he made a speech in Normandy in 2009 to honor the presidential tradition of speeches every five years (and when hasn't this wind bag passed up a chance to give a speech), but not one word from him regarding the anniversary of the liberation of Europe from Nazi Tyranny on D-Day (for two years in a row now); not even a backhanded press release from one of his sycophant lackeys in the press office about the great deeds of that day or a couple of sentences uttered while doing whatever it is that he is doing (because it ain't being a leader). And for the trolls and mental midgets who think this is all about Bush/Cheney Love, riddle me this; have other presidents not given speeches or had any formal recognition of this day? If you do any research, you find the answer is yes, but here is the key difference; Bush (for example) actually acted like a leader and took his job as CINC, for good or bad, very seriously; and so did Bush Senior, and Reagan, and if you are looking for a modern example of a Democrat doing that, look at Truman, Kennedy or Johnson. Alpha Personalities in the military sense it, and recognized Bush as their leader; and they sense this president's weakness and they know exactly where they stand with him. And President Obama's slip is showing, as previously documented here on this blog and elsewhere, regarding his support from military members. According to a poll taken in March by Al-Reuters (h/t WH Dossier), only 17 percent see Obama as a “strong and decisive” commander of the armed forces. He was viewed by 36 percent as “indecisive and dithering.” You get this reputation when you do things like stop by the Tomb of the Unknowns on Memorial Day and then as soon as that is done, hop in The Beast and move out smartly to the golf course in order to continue your record pace of rounds played any president. He is obviously taking every opportunity to pass on the chance to show himself as a leader to the military and to continue to cement his ability to lead from the rear. So, no stirring speeches from him regarding the 3 wars (count 'em Code Pink, ANSWER et. al) we are engaged in; because that is getting in the way of his "fundamental transformation" of the country, his stunningly awesome domestic agenda, his continuous campaign to get elected blah blah blah.... Article II, Section II is pretty important to me, and to many Americans past and present. We expect a great deal from our leaders and respecting the choice to be a defender of freedom and honoring those who serve, even in the smallest ways, is important. Being the President is not a big long episode of Celebrity Apprentice, it is the most important job in the whole world and treating it like that is important to not only me, but many Americans. So, Mr. President, can I get the gift receipt with that?
