NATO powers- not so powerful minus US

I praised the Tripartite Alliance of America, Britain & France yesterday as a reminder to the rest of the world that liberal western democracies still rule. Or at least will speak with one voice against tyranny and in favor of liberty. Or at least will present a facade that can be shown to the world as a united front. Today we see more evidence that paying attention to the man behind the curtain shows that the French and Brits are weak, wizened old Ozs. Uncle Sugar is the only muscle behind any threats and now we will see if our President is prepared to back up his new buddies in our shared attempt to topple Gadaffi. O took US planes out of this fight because, well I'm not real sure, domestic politics most likely. But now the whole Potemkin crusade is about to collapse as Gadaffi parades around town and the rest of NATO is out of bombs. Less than a month into the Libyan conflict, NATO is running short of precision bombs, highlighting the limitations of Britain, France and other European countries in sustaining even a relatively small military action over an extended period of time, according to senior NATO and U.S. officials. The shortage of European munitions, along with the limited number of aircraft available, has raised doubts among some officials about whether the United States can continue to avoid returning to the air campaign if Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi hangs on to power for several more months. Good thing I was sitting down when I read that, I might have passed out and bumped my head. This was readily apparent to anyone with a grade school understanding of military budgets. We have one, the Euros know that and so, they don't. They have been possuming a ride on our back since the end of WWII. As much as they like to complain about US cowboy, imperialist adventurism, they do seem to like the fact that when somebody needs whacked we can project force and bring the scunion. So now that the Big Three have decided that Gadaffi must go, it falls on US military might to make it happen. So be it. But let's hear another speech from our Commander in Chief. The last one mentioned this exercise in enforcing the will of the international community would last days not weeks. A bit naive most of us thought. But if we have now shifted to a stated (in a newspaper op ed) strategy of regime change, then perhaps a little clarification might be in order. Fortunately it is raining here in Obama Town so maybe he can stay off the golf course and cobble together a quick explanation to America about what exactly we are doing. I for one can never get enough of the uncontested King of the Teleprompter. America, I think you have seen that candidate Obama was a naive, non-experienced naif when it came to foreign policy and our national security. Now that I am President I have been forced to at least act like an adult, and so I have followed virtually every policy of the Bush Crime family that I railed against while preaching the marshmallow fluff of Hope and Change. So I announce tonight that we are going to bomb the living bejeezus out of Gadaffi and his thugocracy. Now there’s another thing I want you to remember. I don’t want to get any messages saying that we are holding our position. We’re not holding anything. Let the Hun do that. We are advancing constantly and we’re not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy. We're going to hold onto him by the nose and we're going to kick him in the ass. We're going to kick the hell out of him all the time and we're gonna go through him like crap through a goose. Oops sorry, I was up late watching Turner Classic Movies last night. But America let me tell you one thing. We will always be willing to fight to support the goals of trans-national organizations whose most fundamental goal is the same as mine, to bring America into the world community as just another nation among equals. May God bless America and restrain the rapacious instincts of its people. I wonder why I never get my calls returned from the White House Press Office?
