Longtime B5.net pal, Eggs, sends this one: Air-rescue team members who saved three survivors of a sheriff's helicopter crash Jan. 31 received the Public Safety Achievement Medal from Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik on Thursday. Standing next to one of the two military choppers used for the mission, 13 Air Force reservists of the 943rd Rescue Group were awarded medals in front of family members and fellow military crews at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. The morning ceremony was followed by an emotional reunion between rescuers and survivors of the crash. Some had never been face-to-face with those who saved their loved ones, and took this opportunity to thank them for their brave efforts. "This is very emotional for us, these guys saved my husband's life and this is the first time I've been able to tell them that we are very thankful," said Cheri Sayers. Dupnik gave a special recognition to Tech. Sgt. Sean McBride, who during the mission tackled a large boulder headed for the wrecked helicopter to keep it from knocking the aircraft down the mountain with survivors still inside. Go read the whole story. One of the PJ's tackled a boulder?!
