We Should Make A Pledge...

In the spirit this new "toning down" of the rhetoric, I want to engage (oops, a combat metaphor) in a lively debate with those on the leftist end of the spectrum as to what the actual power of rhetoric is and what it's effects actually are. Some of the very same senators and representatives who are howling about making sure our discourse is civil and respectful are the very same people that directed some pretty harsh, ney, outlandish and libelous statements at the President and by proxy, at those of use who served to protect this nation. I believe ... that this war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything--Senator Harry Reid What we now have in Iraq is a defeat.--Representative Henry Waxman I am a Korean War veteran. I support our troops as much as anyone in this body, but I do so by advocating redeployment out of Iraq as soon as it can be safely done.--Representative John Conyers The American taxpayers should not have to send one more penny on the Administration's Iraq misadventure. Let's give our troops the supplies they need to get out of Iraq safely. Let's bring our troops home.--Representative John Conyers "If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control," he said, "you would most certainly believe this must have been done by ***, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime -- Pol Pot or others -- that had no concern for human beings."--Senator *** Durbin Now, it is very hard to maintain a dialog with people who give aid and comfort to the enemies of this nation by disrespecting and maligning our efforts and encouraging them to hold out while they continue to find ways to undercut our efforts there for political gain. And I am certain as well that everyone has noticed the shifting of the credit for the success we are now seeing there to the political party that opposed vociferously our efforts and success. But those previous libels in our direction not withstanding, and in another effort to heed the call of the peaceful and loving Left, here is my pledge to them to maintain my "new tone" in my rhetoric: I Deebow, hereby pledge that in the spirit of this "new tone" in our political discourse to do the following while stomping a rhetorically theoretical mud-hole in your John Brown hind-parts and then River-dancing it dry; --When you or members of the party to which your politics are aligned say things like "When they bring a knife, we bring a gun" or "go out and get in their faces." or some such nonsense, I will remind you in thestrongest terms what a hypocrite you are because, after all, as you have told the world many times, you believe in peaceful means of handling conflict and all that icky talk of dangerous knives and evil guns and physical confrontation is so "right wing" and that in order to maintain your intellectual honesty and believability, you must fore swear all talk of such things, lest ye become what you hate. --When you make statements through your propaganda arms (for those of you new to the Political Left, that is ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, the NY Times, Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, Media Matters, Center For American Progress etc.) that are not only patently false, but provable lies and distortions, I will formulate and execute (oops, more combat metaphors) my poop-hammering of you and your statements in the same measured and thoughtful way as you did. --If you later apologize for the slanderous and libelous statements that you made, I will dig deep into the well of forgiveness that I have and point out that once thoughts are uttered and said, they cannot be un-uttered and un-said, and how you may now take that apology and place it somewhere where the solar energy you have so much reverence for cannot reach. --And finally, if, in complete disregard to your peaceful and non-combative nature, you accuse me of capital crimes or the conspiracy to commit them, or inciting others to commit them in our stead, I pledge that I will use every avenue and ability I have to never let you escape your responsibility for those statements and to let as many people as I can reach know just exactly the kind of low-life scumbag that you are for attempting to link political movements, candidates, and freedom loving people to those crimes, attempts and incitements by broad generalizations across populations. I will target (dang, another combat metaphor) you with the same vigor that you have shown for tolerance and understanding regarding other people and their differing views. Now see, I can be civil in my discourse as well.... I would encourage everyone to make the same pledge as well and to use your pledge to help move our rhetoric and discourse in the right direction. I for one, plan to abide by mine....
