Christmas morning. A time to gather around the tree, drink warm or warming beverages, and check to see what Santa has brought. For Mark Dolfini of Standing for the Fallen, it was a day to remember. To stand as a memorial for those who fight for our freedom to enjoy the day, and most particularly for those wounded and those who paid the ultimate price so that we could have this day here, at home, in relative peace. It was not the most pleasant of days for him to stand in regulation shoes and Dress Blues, but stand he did. He didn't count on this being a day for donations, but much more a day to remember and honor those lost this last year. The surprise was, it turned out to be a surprisingly good day for donations. To have a supporter drop by, donate, and then go get hot chocolate for everyone there. To have an older Marine stop by, get choked up a bit while donating, and offering to go get coffee for all. To have a lady stop by and, with tears in her eyes, trudge through the snow to talk to Mark about her nephew who paid the ultimate price for liberty. Even if I didn't know Mark, it would be an honor to stand by him and support what he does. For his efforts are aimed at supporting Soldiers' Angels Germany and through them all the wounded who come there. Given that Cooking with the Troops also has support of the wounded at Landstuhl as a key part of its operations, it only makes sense to support those who do the same. Liking and admiring what he has done just makes it all the better. Mark has a few friends, such as Gunny Mantle here in red, who join him. Together, they've done an incredible amount for their cause. Individuals and small groups can make a big difference, and Standing for the Fallen is living proof of that. You, our readers, are living proof of that. You give money, items, knowledge, and support to a variety of good works. For that, you have my profound and sincere thanks. LW
