Wow. What a Merry Christmas in the COB6 household! Got word late last night from proud dad and fellow blogger COB6 that his son has received his SECOND Bronze Star, this one with a 'V'-device, and his, get this, THIRD Purple Heart. Here's some of the details on what SGT S did: The incident ocurred in the Arghandab Valley during what the teams dudded the Battle of Bakersfield. It was an 18 hour firefight in Indian country. SGT Strickland lost his Platoon Leader in the first few minutes and took charge on the fly. Several guys were wounded, including himself, but he rallied them to a counter attack that destroyed a Taliban stronghold, killing all inside. Then he reorganized a peremeter and coordinated the MedEvac. The enemy attacked again while the MedEvac was hapening, and SGT Strickland was wounded again. He led a small patrol of four guys to take out a machinegun position that was harrassing them during the MedEvac. When they returned to the peremeter Josh passed out from his blood loss. He was evac'd on the last bird flying. His commander said that 12 men are alive today because of his efforts. Yeah, you could say ol' dad's a proud poppa today. He's bustin' at the seams, and rightfully so. I don't know what's made him more excited- the fact his progeny has received this, or the fact they were pinned on by none other than THE MAN himself, GEN Petraeus. In country. SGT Jason Strickland has been thru a lot on his most recent tour of Afghanistan with the 101st. I believe that when he gets back, he'll be the ONLY one able to top his old man's tales of derring-do in combat, and that's saying something. As they say, ''where do we get such men?'' We only have to look to our right or left and see where...
