Allahpundit asks for your commentary: Here’s your chance to sound off, vets. An idea whose time has come, or no go? The Defense Department should eliminate restrictions on women serving in combat units and end all “gender restrictive policies,” according to a blue-ribbon panel created by Congress… A five-page analysis prepared for the commission concluded that women do not lack the physical ability to perform combat roles; gender integration will not negatively affect unit cohesion; and women are not more likely than men to develop mental health problems. You're in luck, Allah. We had this conversation just last week. See especially the comments here, but also here; and here. It may be instructive that no one involved in any of those discussions proposed opening the combat arms to women; I was challenged pretty hotly on my claim that the benefits of having them in the military (at all) clearly outweigh the problems created by a mixed-sex environment. (With respect to the readers and my fellow bloggers, some of whom raised strong and well-considered arguments against it, I remain convinced of that claim.) Does anyone want to revise and extend their remarks?
