For The List: Padre Hotel in Bakersfield, CA

In rushing through my reads this morning, I came across this story (hat tip Insty) of a young Marine refused a room at the inn. Worse yet, it was a young Marine and his brand new bride that were refused a room at the inn. Age, not service, but: Nevermind that the age policy was to prevent underage drinking and partying Nevermind that he was in dress blues and she in a wedding dress The staff refused. When the story got out, the manager backed the staff against the riff raff. It was then that things blew up and only then that the co-owner felt sick to his stomach and tried to right a wrong. How the hell do you fix ruining a brides' wedding night? Right now, I'm cynical enough to bet he did feel sick to his stomach, because if someone stuck my unit into a 220 socket and hit the switch, I would too. And, yes, that is what the co-owners staff and management team did to him. Runs up the chain, so that makes it a leadership failure from the top down. So, just me, but I know that The Padre and its owners just went on my little list that I share with clients, employers, and friends of places that I wouldn't trust to organize a drinking party in a distillery. Yeah, they've reached out and tried to make nice to the couple. Frankly, it was the least they could do in my book. They will have to do a lot more, try a lot harder, and kiss that brides ass often and in public and for years for me to begin to change my mind. Then again, I'm sorta grumpy that way. For the record, even if it is a Hilton property (and, yes, I still try to avoid them after what they did to the wounded in DC), the Doubletree deserves props for being as nice to them as they were. Major props. LW
