Team Army in Project Valour-IT's annual competition for Soldiers Angels was the first to reach the objective of $15000! Team Marines, the closest lesser branch, was almost at $9000 when that occured. Major Chuck Ziegenfuss with hand wounds (among other wounds) after getting hit by an IED in Iraq. It's quite a story. So, Chuck was a blogger who now couldn't blog. As he began to recover, CPT Ziegenfuss wanted to return to writing his blog, but serious hand injuries hampered his typing. When a loyal and generous reader gave him a copy of the Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred software, other readers began to realize how important such software could be to CPT Ziegenfuss' fellow wounded soldiers and started cast about for a way to get it to them. A fellow blogger (blog author) who writes under the pseudonym FbL contacted Captain Ziegenfuss and the two realized they shared a vision of providing laptops with voice-controlled software to wounded soldiers whose injuries prevented them from operating a standard computer. FbL contacted Soldiers Angels, who offered to help develop the project, and Project Valour-IT was born. "At that time I had no use of either hand. I know how humbling it is, how humiliating it feels. And I know how much better I felt, how amazingly more functional I felt, after Soldiers' Angels provided me with a laptop and a loyal reader provided me with the software. I can't wait to do the same, to give that feeling to another soldier at Walter Reed." - Captain Chuck Ziegenfuss So, us Army types are going on to the next objective, $25k. We are Rangering up and we can do it, and we have until November 11th to do so. Be sure to check the auction pages every day. Speaking of Rangering up and moving on to the next objective, the vets over at Ranger Up are insisting on supporting the goal this weekend. Here are the details: 20% of all sales this weekend at Ranger Up will go to the Soldiers Angels Team Army fund to help wounded warriors heal and reconnect with the rest of the world. The incentive starts Saturday, November 6th (0:01AM EST) and continues through Sunday the 7th (11:59PM EST). On Tuesday, Ranger Up will donate the 20% of all items sold this weekend to Valour-IT! Since Mrs. Blackfive and I have bought so much of the RU gear, we'll be looking at some of the newer items to pre-order on Saturday like: Damn, I like that paratrooper shirt! Or this one: Of course, you could order the Blackfive t-shirt or the Warrior Legacy Foundation shirt (seeing more and more of those lately) or this completely badass Soldiers' Angels shirt on Saturday too!
