Domestic Cyber Warfare

There was an agreement just made between the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security regarding cooperation on Cybersecurity. Seems like a no-brainer given the tremendous damage that can be done to our national security. I have read several different accounts of this and they all seemd to simply note that this coordination would help our efforts to safeguard our digital assets. But then I got to the NY Times and shockingly they managed to find a conspiracy hidden in this common sense deal. WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has adopted new procedures for using the Defense Department’s vast array of cyberwarfare capabilities in case of an attack on vital computer networks inside the United States, delicately navigating historic rules that restrict military action on American soil. Oooh a little scary eh, Cyber Warriors patrolling your local internets. Can you just picture it, Attack-Nerds rolling up in blacked-out VW Bugs armed w/ tricked out laptops sporting all the latest geek ware? Puh-leaze. I understand that there are certain rules that needed to be dealt with to ensure this didn't somehow bizarrely intersect with the Posse Comitatus restriction, but c'mon. The bulk of this deal will be sharing technology and making sure we don't waste billions building the same mouse traps in two different agencies. OK sure if a major cyber attack happens some of the folks attempting to stop the bad guys from pulling a digital smash and grab will work for DoD, who cares. even of those, quite a few will be civilians and contractors. Well next we should be hearing howls about how the Blackwater Digital Assassination squads are running rampant scarfing up poor innocent stoners who were just trying to plan a trip to Amsterdam. Whatta buncha bologna!
