RE: Spiritual Warfare Needed for Marine LtCol Ty Edwards Lt. Col. Ty Edwards received a head wound from an AK round in Afghanistan while protecting his convoy. Transported to Germany he was subsequently transferred to Bethesda Naval Hospital and is there now. Yesterday, Ty developed a high fever and the Docs packed him in ice to try to get it down (as of yesterday afternoon). His wife Anna asks for your prayers. That was two years ago. And you all prayed and hoped for the Edwards family. Some would have believed that taking a bullet to the head would stop some people...just not Ty Edwards. Here is your update from the man himself: Hey Everyone, It has been 2 years (today) since I was wounded in Afghanistan. I have come a long way and still have farther to go. In therapy, I am working on walking with a walker. I use a large band tied to the walker (and my right leg) to assist it in moving forward. This Friday, I walked 126 feet. My speech is improving as well. I am speaking more clearly and quicker than in the past. I have given speeches recently to groups on Memorial Day, Sept 11th, and in my hometown. Being at home with the family is great. We have family movie night every Friday. The kids love it. And I’m enjoying every minute too. I’m also enjoying Mason’s football practices and games. He is playing offensive tackle and defensive tackle. He and I also love watching and talking Auburn football. They are undefeated! War Eagle! Alaina and I work on homework together everyday—a good exercise in patience for me! I should have Cody Bear, my service dog, by Christmas—he’ll be a great gift for us all. Major Duncan continues to fight. He sounded remarkably well when I talked with him earlier this week. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your support these past couple of years. Who knows what this next year will bring, but I do know there is much to be thankful for. Below is a link to a video of a speech I gave at my hometown high school. The audio on it is a little difficult to understand. Semper Fi, Ty By the way, the two legendary Marines who sent out that request for prayers for LtCol Edwards are both now in the hospital. Jim "Seamus" Garrahy is fighting bone cancer and kicking it's ass. I've referred to Seamus as a Corporal (which he prefers from his time in the Korean War) but went on to become an officer. I would appreciate prayers sent his way as he's got a long fight ahead of him. Major Gene Duncan, a Marine tanker and author, is also undergoing chemo and is having trouble eating. Duncan enlisted in 1950 and went to Korea, then left the active Marines in 1954 as a mortar section leader (1/5 Marines). Then, in 1961, he went back on active duty and served two tours in Viet Nam, wounded twice, and had many commands before retiring in 1979. Both of these Marines have been friends to this Doggie and have spent their fortunes and lives taking care of their fellow Marines - the Marine motto "Semper Fidelis" is the best descriptor for both of them. I'd appreciate it if you would put them on your prayer lists and send them some positive thoughts.
