First, St. Martin's Press (SMP) has a new blog/site called "Command Posts" which highlights their miltiary - fiction, non-fiction, history - authors, as well as a spot light on Soldiers' Angels Germany. LTC Shafer author of Operation Dark Heart (the book the Pentagon bought all copies and burned them) and General (ret) Hugh Shelton being two of the newer audtions to SMP's author list. We're huge fans of Stephen Pressfield ("Gates of Fire" anyone?), and he's also an author for SMP. Here's a piece of the post about MaryAnn Phillips and Soldiers' Angels Germany: ...“There was one guy, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget him. His uncle was a Soldiers’ Angel, so he e-mailed me. And this guy comes in, he’s in the intensive care unit, but he’s awake. He has no feet and one arm has been horribly broken, and he’s lying there, squirming on the bed, saying, ‘They tell me the other guys are ok, but I gotta talk to them. I won’t believe it until I talk to them.’ And finally he talks to them and finds out that they’re ok."... Go read the whole post. MaryAnn and the other Germany Angels are amazing. St. Martin's Press is helping by, not only posting about SA Germany's good work, they are also going to donate $1,000 toward Soldiers' Angels Germany - you can help, too, by checking this list of needed supplies and sending what you can. So why is a publisher doing this? Matt Baldacci, the VP/Associate Publisher of St. Martin's Press wanted to express his gratitude on behalf of SMP: "St. Martin's Press recognizes that we would not have an audience, or for that matter - a free country, were it not for the service of our armed forces. It is our intention to give back in this small way by contributing to organizations that support our troops: active or retired."
