I've been highlighting some things going on that are looking like the entire US Government is out to screw the troops. Well, after this morning's rag came out, I'm more than convinced it is- DENVER—Colorado Secretary of State Bernie Buescher is asking the federal government for a waiver of the requirement to mail ballots to military service members overseas 45 days before the November election, a move that means some ballots might not be counted. Spokesman Rich Coolidge said the ballots will still be mailed, but some soldiers in remote battlefields might not have enough time to mail them back, even though the state will give them an extra seven days after the election. This, to me, is nothing short of trying to find a way to minimize each and every troop vote that the Democrats can. A partisan statement? Sure as hell is. But, when you have VA, WA, DC, HI, DE, MD, and others as well as CO all trying to do the same, what can you expect? And, can you take a look at who's leading these states? (VA the exception, but that one started under a previous administration IIRC). MOTAX, over at Burn Pit, has this: The servicemen and women whose votes were disqualified in previous elections are part of the tradition of the American citizen-soldier whose very sacrifices have preserved the right to vote for all of us. ...Now, nearly half a century later, the necessary changes in state and local election laws and procedures have not been made. Due to late primaries, lawsuits about redistricting, ballot access, or other problems, State and local absentee ballots oftentimes are not printed nor sent to overseas voters in a timely manner. As a result, overseas military and civilian Americans often do not have time to receive, mark and return their ballots in time to be counted. The fact that the states are even considering finding ways to PREVENT voting, rather than finding ways to HELP it, speaks to their intent overall. Our men and women overseas, working to defend the rights of THOSE countries to get to vote, are not even allowed to vote themselves? Does anyone know the meaning of the word 'hypocritical'? Over at Big Peace, The Donovan speaks to what he sees- But just who *will* Justice fall over itself to ensure they can get a chance to vote? If for no other reason perhaps than to ensure that the Senate can be a re-employment agency for retired Saturday Night Live comic hacks? Felons! Right, felons. People who have demonstrated a strong committment to civil society and have a respect for the law. You got it folks. These states and others (like MN) are working to ENSURE that FELONS get a right to vote, while working to PREVENT our troops overseas can. The Warrior Legacy Foundation will also be working with local candidates to help ensure they promise to end this kind of idiocy, and work to propose legislation that prevents EVER having to worry about it coming up again. This.must.end. November, you cannot come soon enough for me... Wolf
