General James N. Mattis is taking over as CDRUSCENTCOM, to the great pleasure of one Ralph Peters. I can't blame Mr. Peters for his enthusiasm. General Mattis is a truly outstanding example of what a Marine general ought to be. Back in 2006, I had hoped to spark a campaign to draft him into the Presidential election -- I don't care what party he wants to run under, I'd vote for him regardless. He's got exactly the combination of grit and intelligence that our country could use to face down the serious problems coming down the pike. Some of those problems are big enough, and tough enough, that it might take a Marine to get the job done. Maybe next time?
