A disgraceful piece of legislation, the DISCLOSE Act, passed the House yesterday, hopefully it will die in the Senate but the fact that it is in play shows just how far down the hole our government has gone. This steaming pile of censorship makes sure that large interest groups (unions etc.) that support Democrats can pump unlimited funds into elections and those that support Republicans (corporations etc.) are muzzled. That is sad and hopefully declared officially unconstitutional when challenged, but there is one group that supports Republicans that carved themselves out an exemption. By doing so they actually made this awful power grab by the left possible. Care to guess?...... It's the National Rifle Association. Yep the NRA decided that it was more important than the free speech of anyone else. That is why I am not a joiner of groups, inevitably they decide that their own existence is more important than anything else. Well the NRA just decided they are the only thing that matters and that is pathetic, as is their statement rationalizing this disgrace. There are those who say the NRA should put the Second Amendment at risk over a First Amendment principle. That’s easy to say—unless you have a sworn duty to protect the Second Amendment above all else, as we do. There you have it. F**k the 1st Amendment, we only care about the 2nd. I am about as strong a supporter of the 2nd Amendment as anyone in this country. I recognize no right of any government entity to disarm me, but I am not willing to trample the 1st Amendment and Free Speech to create a BS right to use Government Controlled speech to lobby for it. This bill would have likely died absent their support, but since they got the Dems to add a bunch of loopholes making sure that the NRA was OK, never mind all the others who got screwed, they kissed ass and gave it their seal of approval. What a craven, low and indefensible move by the NRA.
