SPC Matthew Freire and 1LT Tyler Ginter are with 55th Combat Camera. You can read the lieutenant's blog about making this video, and see stills from it, here. For those of you who don't know how much COMCAM does in this war, I had a friend -- a specialist like SPC Freire -- who arranged to become an active duty Marine 'so he could get some time off.' Like Civil Affairs or PSYOP, COMCAM is in constant demand in this kind of warfighting. This video shows you why they can be a powerful asset. COMCAM is an 'outside the wire' enabler. A senior NCO of combat camera, in Iraq, told me that one of his COMCAM guys had recently been awarded the Bronze Star. He was on duty with a Special Forces unit that went after a high value target, and ended up knocking the guy out with his camera. They don't get a lot of the glory, which tends to go to the combat arms, or to the special operators. Certainly those guys deserve a lot of glory! Still, once in a while, you ought to think about some of these folks like Combat Camera who are also out there, doing good things for us.
