Well, we are all familiar with trolls and tools that live to say the nastiest things they can to those who serve or have served. They are a fact of life, and without the social constraints that placed external restraints on them they are a very noisy and vile part of life. Far more familiar, and dangerous, are the the people who, shall we say, have at least some degree of social grace but not quite as much as we would like. These are the people who make it an interesting experience in public when they ask questions or say things that are the social equivalent of a Bouncing Betty. Kanani Fong at The Kitchen Dispatch has a wonderful post up on the seven things never to say to a veteran. There are a lot of good thoughts there, a link to a source, and -- best yet -- links to some etiquette guides to give those special friends, relatives, and such.
