In a woefully under-reported ceremony SGT Israel Garcia's wife was presented the Silver Star for his heroic actions in Afghanistan. The Tanker Babe has the full story. SGT Israel Garcia was posthumously awarded the Silver Star, our nation's third highest award for valor, on 29 September 2009 at 11:00 at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base, California for "gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States." SGT Garcia was awarded the Silver Star for his heroic actions on 13 July 2007 at the Battle of Wanat, Afghanistan where he and eight of his Brothers in Arms were killed by the enemy.
