The unbearable stupidity of Bob Herbert

"Don't get stuck on stupid" Gen. Honore. One guy stuck on stupid for as long as I can recall is NY Times columnist Bob Herbert. He is educated, but has the common sense of a box of rocks. I can't remember ever reading one of his columns and not feeling dumber for the effort. Since he is melanin-enhanced I realize that hating on him like this makes me a racist, my cross to bear. He uncorks a doozy today. Most Americans have conveniently put these two (Iraq & A-Stan) absurd, obscene conflicts out of their minds. Now while calling these wars absurd and obscene is a good start, trust me this jackass is just warming up. The war in Afghanistan made sense once but it doesn’t any longer. The war in Iraq never did. Care to explain that at all Bob? No? Just drop that wisdom and MoveOn. “2nd Tour, Hope I Don’t Die.” Or maybe it’s the third tour, or fourth, or fifth. The book’s title came from graffiti scrawled on a wall at an Air Force base in Kuwait that was one of the transit points for troops heading to Iraq. America’s young fighting men and women have to make these multiple tours because the overwhelming majority of the American people want no part of the nation’s wars. Obviously the gallows humor employed by our troops would be alien to a pampered nitwit like you. And Bob, they don't have to go because most Americans don't want to go, they go because they volunteered and have been reenlisting in record numbers knowing full well they would go. You are the one lying on your neck writing drivel, kept safe by better people than you. They don’t want to serve, they don’t want to make any sacrifices here on the home front — they don’t even want to pay the taxes that would be needed to raise the money to pay for the wars. We just add the trillions to deficits that stretch as far as the eye can see. How the hell do you know people don't want to pay the taxes for these wars? I'm perfectly happy to, what I don't want to pay for is the obscene expansion of our heretofore capitalist, free society. I don't want to own GM and I don't want socialized medicine. I am glad to pay for Hellfire missiles because I love dead tangos. Heck I even like paying for schools so Afghan girls can live better lives. To the extent that we think about the wars at all, it’s just long enough to point our fingers at the volunteers and say: “Oh yeah, great. You go. And if you come back maimed or dead we’ll salute you as a hero.” You should hang out with a higher class of people Bob. My friends salute all those who serve, and we even salute the actual heroes as well as the dead and wounded. We honor their sacrifice and understand that by serving in our place they deserve respect. The next bit is so stunningly dense you wonder how this over-educated douche even walks upright. A clear idea of the pathetic unwillingness of the American people to share in the sacrifices of these wars can be gleaned from a comment that President Obama made in his address last week to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. “We are a country of more than 300 million Americans,” he said. “Less than 1 percent wears the uniform.” The president was not chiding those who are not serving, he was only intending to praise those who are. But the idea that so few are willing to serve at a time when the nation is fighting two long wars is a profound indictment on the society. You know Bob, if you got your news from someplace other than the NY Times you might be aware that the size of our military is fixed by law. Yep, even if you and your chicken-***, left-wing butthead, friends wanted to serve, the slots are full. Patriotic Americans volunteered to fill them and have even during wartime.I feel bad for you Bob, I mean it's gotta be a lot of work to be that damn dumb day in and day out. Keep it up buddy. Sadly I refrained from calling him a chimp or an ultra-maroon because he is black. That pisses me off and I'm about to usher in a post-racial America by not treating black idiots any differently than white ones.
