37 years ago, I was an All-State football player and state and national-caliber athlete on my way to play college ball. I had driven my enemies before me and reveled in the lamentation of their women. 32 years ago, I received my commission as a steely-eyed killer for the US government, a task I performed (well, role I played) for 24 years. Now I'm a water bottle for frozen goatlings.

Some of it is fashion - blogging is old hat now, and has been impacted both by ubiquity (gone are our days of 10K+ visits) which lead to niche choices - just like the proliferation of cable channels reduced the no-other-choice artificial numbers of the big tv nets.
