69 years ago, paratroops and glider-borne troops were loading into their aircraft, preparatory to invading France, and starting the end game of WWII in Europe.
I am reminded that I have the honor today of having lunch (as I do every Wednesday) with past-President of my Rotary club, Bill Thompson. Who, as an 18 year old radio operator in the Jedburghs of the OSS, had jumped into France in... May.
And he had jumped in Africa.
And he would jump into Yugoslavia, and finally, into China before it was all over. Then he came home, settled into a productive life, and serves as an example of a lifetime of service; to his family, his community, and the nation.
