Iran has been chosen as a member of the “bureau” overseeing a month-long United Nations conference in New York aimed at finalizing a controversial global “arms trade treaty.”

Actually, the elections to the committee were regionally-based, not from the plenary group. Still, says something about Iran's influence in it's region. This treaty will be observed meticulously by those with little no skin in the game in terms of intra-state sales, in the breach by most other players. It will be used as a hammer by national actors who wish to thoroughly disarm intra-state players.
And will be used by everybody to bash the US. Regardless of what we do. Externally and internally.
