Roger's Rangers, and that Ranger, along with two other Meriwethers, served in the Colonial Line and Virginia militia during the Revolution. That started a tradition of service that currently ends with me. There were gaps. We missed the war with Mexico somehow, and we fought on the losing side in that 1860's imbroglio, and there's no record we wore a uniform campaigning against the Plains indians. But other than that, between the Meriwethers and the Donovans, when we were needed, we were there. Whether using captured Brown Bess' or french muskets, up through todays incarnations of Gene Stoner's masterpiece, we've humped a ruck and carried a rifle, rode a horse and fired a gun or two as soldiers of the United States Army.
Nary a jarhead, sailor, or zoomie among us.
