If you're in the Leavenworth area tomorrow and have some free time...

Argghhh!
If you've got some time, and would like to honor some literally "stuck in a corner" soldiers and family members...
The Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery will pay honors to a group of 14 fallen former veterans who served during the Civil War and World War I and three spouses Tuesday, July 26, whose cremated remains will be laid to rest in the post cemetery.

We encourage members of the Fort Leavenworth community who wish to pay respect to these fallen former veterans and spouses to attend the service in the cemetery.

We will not be officially lining Grant Ave for this event as that special honor is reserved for those who are killed in action.

The cortege will enter the post at Grant Gate with a military (and potentially a Patriot Guard/ American Legion rider) escort at approximately 9:30 a.m. (+/- 10 minutes). The cortege will travel north on Grant Ave. and turn left (West) on Pope Ave., proceeding directly to the cemetery.

The road which runs through the Cemetery will be closed starting at 9 a.m. for through traffic.

The service will be 10-11 a.m. in the cemetery near the flag pole. It will be very similar in setup and conduct to the annual Memorial Day Service.  This is a non-invitation, limited (100) non-reserved seating event. Parking is encouraged at the Frontier Conference Center. There will be limited handicapped parking inside the cemetery.

The guest memorial speakers will be Mr. Roger Donlon, Medal of Honor Recipient, and Lt. Gen. (ret) Robert Arter, Civilian Aid to the Secretary of the Army for Eastern Kansas.

The ceremony is a "Missing in America Project" event. The Missing in America Project (MIAP) is a registered 501(c)3 Non-profit Corporation. Their intention is to locate, identify and inter the unclaimed cremains of American veterans. The Missing in America Project was launched nationwide in January, 2007. More information on the "Missing in America Program can be found at www.miap.us/.

Please forward this to all in your organization who may want to participate.
