I'm perfectly willing to give the President credit where it's due - and giving the "go" order slots neatly into that. And ensuring, when he took office, that the appropriate people understood that bin Laden was *still* a #1 priority. All good. But to make it out like this wouldn't have happened if he hadn't been in the Oval Office? Please. Remember - this wetwork was the culmination of information obtained... from Gitmo detainees, something that we are to suppose a President Obama (based on Senator Obama's posturings and President Obama's intial actions) might well have not happened.
I give the President credit for what he did. Giving the order to go is a Big Deal, and not an easy one, when you're essentially ordering a small-scale invasion of an ally - however unreliable that ally actually is.
However, I give the greatest credit where it's truly due - the guys and gals who did the work - including the years of scut-work intel gathering and analysis.
Apparently Meredith Bagby thinks this wouldn't have happened if Mr. Obama hadn't been sitting behind the Resolute Desk.
Which frankly is arrant nonsense. Good job, Mr President, as I said.
But good golly, Ms. Bagby. Wipe your chin.
