Whew!

That deep sigh of relief was from me -- I just got my new LOA (Letter of Authorization). An LOA is the gummint version of the hall pass that allows a contractor the privilege of working in a war -- uhhhhhhhhh -- an area that does not meet OSHA requirements.It also allows me to use the PX and the DFAC, and is supposedly the only thing I'll need to get emergency medical treatment in a military facility. Actually, the LOA is just my backup -- I get faster results flashing my "US Army Retired"...

Wow. Just... wow.

It's nice to be noticed, so to speak, from a wholly unexpected source. This is possibly the nicest note that wasn't from my mother or wife that I have ever received.My company does not take this day as a holiday. To be fair - just before I joined the firm, we traded it for the day after Thanksgiving, so we get a corporate 4 day holiday. So, today I took a day of vacation, as my Rotary Club does a pancake breakfast fundraiser (disabled vets eat free). Then I did the whole "royal wave"...
