As of March, 2010, 2,167 people have served as United States Senators - or at least are officially credited, a few actually having died before being seated during the early days of the Republic.3,446 people have been awarded the Medal of Honor (soon to be 3,447, whenChief Master Sergeant Etchbarger's posthumous Vietnam-era award is officially presented on 21 September.Strip out about 1500 of those Medals due to changes in how the criteria changed (this would be the bulk of the Civil War - Span Am War Medals, most of which today would be Bronze Stars, Silver Stars, Distinguished Service Crosses...
