Now that the well has been capped...

Argghhh!
I confidently predict that by Sept/Oct 2012 we'll be seeing stories about how the heroic efforts of government agencies, at the personal direction of, and with close supervision by, the President actually prevented the Worst Environmental Disaster In American History, and, in fact, all the obfuscation, dithering, and delay were part of a master plan conceived by Teh One to ensure that obstructionist naysayers like Bobby Jindal didn't destroy Louisiana's shoreline forever, and that in fact, the Obama-led clean-up effort ensured that damage to the Gulf was less than the spill from the Exxon Valdez was to Alaskan waters.

Earlier, if there's a serious primary challenge.

In related news, this article at American Spectator resonates.

In other related news - I also think that it's entirely possible that the media will be able to say that the damage is not as bad as forecast, etc, and tell the truth.  Mother Nature knows her system much better than we do, though she does sometimes take a long view of things from a human perspective.

But the ocean is an amazingly resilient ecosystem.  Which shouldn't be interpreted as me saying "Oh, so what, do what we want and to hell with the future!"  Because, as I said, Mother Nature tends to take a longer view than human timelines allow for.

As in Bikini atoll, site of the largest surface nuke testing we ever did - where the ocean is doing pretty well, but the islands still aren't a hospitable place for people.

And the short-term impacts on the livlihoods of Gulf Coasters are immediate and bad.  I, personally, am glad that I'm not much of a sea food fan.
