There are two Medals awarded for actions on this day. One during the Civil War and the other a naval lifesaving medal awarded shortly after the Civil War. Both recipients lived to recieve their awards.Civill War. I love the name of the place where Private McKeever earned his Medal. Burnt Ordinary, Virginia. Originally called John Lewis' Ordinary, and then Fox's Ordinary... one can guess why it had the third name change. The town is now called Toano, Va.
