Less than average activity for the Medal on this day in history, with only 8 awards, 7 of them for WWI and beyond, when warfare had moved into being a year-round activity – more so than prior to the industrial revolution hitting its stride and the concomitant reduction in the impact of agricultural cycles on industrialized societies.
