There were 12 Medals awarded for actions on this day in history. Eight during the Civil War, one during WWII, two for Korea, and one earned in Vietnam. The Civil War opens with a Medal earned before there was a Medal (the Medal being authorized in July of 1863). It was earned just down the road from where I live, in Lexington, Missouri in 1861 at the Batte of the Hay (well, actually, Hemp) Bales, followed by one at Shepherdstown Ford in 1862.
